Declan Brooks - BMX Freestyle Bronze Medalist from Tokyo 2020 has joined BMX Academy to share his Olympic journey with school children.

An inspirational story story of a quiet boy from Portsmouth who found a passion that led him to the Olympic podium!
A normal visit includes Declan delivering a whole school assembly followed by a trick display and BMX workshops for up to 60 KS2 per day.
  • Whole School Assembly
  • Trick display
  • BMX Workshops, 60 per day
Declan's Olympic assembly is all about encouraging children to work hard, following their dreams and their heart.

He uses the Learning Pit concept to explain how, courage, effort and perseverance enabled him to work through the struggles he faced following his dream to become a professional BMXer. Also how the same skills helped him bounce back from huge injuries and can help us all to get through the pit to learn difficult things in class.

Declan shares stories from performing in Cirque Du Soleil, featuring in the Mary Poppins Movie and competing all over the world.

Encouraging children to Dream Big, as you never know where effort and persistence will take you.
The rest of the day includes BMX practical workshops for 60 KS2 children per day, all equipment supplied. Children learn beginner level BMX tricks and jumps riding with an Olympic athlete on the school playground. They also get the chance to hold an Olympic medal!
"As you know, I think you and your team are all amazing having been lucky enough to see you, Danny's inline skating and Terry's excellent scooter workshop. Yesterday did not disappoint.

The staff and students had a truly amazing day with Declan yesterday. He was brilliant with the students, he was engaging and held the students attention in his inspirational and  engaging assembly. They all listened with interest and responded with great questions.

As much as the students enjoyed their classroom visits  from Declan, during which they were able to hold his medal, sit on his bike and have their photos taken with him on a one to one basis. The highlight of the day was his wonderful visit to the playground at breaktime where he entertained us all with his skills and tricks. Everyone was particularly impressed with his people jumping trick, and keen to volunteer to lay down and be jumped over.

All in all the visit was a huge success. Declan was wonderful with our students and such a great role model and a genuinely really nice man. He was inspiring, motivating and certainly demonstrated the potential rewards of dreaming big."

"Declan was great throughout the whole morning. The assembly was very inspirational and it was great to hear him talk about his set backs and how he recovered from these (going through the Learning Pit).

The tricks were amazing and it was really good for the children hear about everything and then see some of the skills that Declan has."

Ben Hyde
