School Scooter Workshops - with Terry Price - Scooter Champion

Terry Price is one of the originators of the sport of stunt scootering and can deliver a Scooter Experience following the same format as Mike's BMX days. Including a mindset and resilience themed assembly, trick display and scooter workshops.
Assembly
A day begins with an assembly where Terry shares his story and explains how scootering wasn't even a sport when he began. He didn't fit in and was made fun of for being different.
He took inspiration from BMXers and built the belief that the same tricks were possible on a scooter.
He learned how to channel his energy into his passion by blocking out critics and developing perseverance to land some 'world first' tricks in his sport. Terry demonstrates many of the key tricks he mastered along the way in the assembly, finishing off with a backflip!
Terry Price - Achievements
2013 Best Trick Winner ISA European Contest
2007 World Champion
2007 First scooter rider to land 'Double Backflip'
2005 European Champion
2003 Turned Pro & joined Team Extreme
2003 First scooter rider to land a 'Flair' Backflip 180

Scooter workshops
After the assembly Terry delivers workshops for 60-75 children from Y1-Y6 per day. Each child gets their own scooter and helmet to learn the basics of stunt scootering.
Under Terry's coaching the children build their control and confidence before moving on to foundation level tricks. Using a growth mindset approach, Terry makes the whole experience fun with games and music. Breaking each trick down into bite sized steps so each challenge is achievable and rewarding.
What's included in each Scooter workshop?
  • Fun scooter control challenges
  • Small jumps & tricks
  • Scooter & helmet for every child
  • PL insurance & risk assessments
  • Tricks throughout from Terry
This workshop can work fine in the school hall during winter months or wet days. Timings can fit around lunch set up.
What's required from the school?
  • Level playground or hard court area
  • 15-20 pupils per workshop
  • A member of support staff
  • Vehicle access close to playground
  • Indoor space if raining
"I just wanted to send an email to say thank you so much for the experience we had with Terry today.  All of the children thoroughly enjoyed the assembly this morning and it was a fantastic opportunity to hear about perseverance and not being afraid to fail!  Super message for everyone.  The adults loved it too and I was super brave and ended up laying by the ramp for one of the tricks!  A once in a lifetime for me!

The Year 5 children also loved their workshops.  They all came back smiling and  I think they got so much from it.  They all came back talking about wanting scooters from Christmas and about trying the tricks when they got home.  Also, I noticed lots of red, sweaty faces - so great for their level of activity in the day, as we have lots of children who need encouragement to do physical activity or spend too much time on screens - so hopefully this has inspired them to get out, try something new and push their boundaries.

Overall, a fantastic day and so much to be learnt from Terry - an inspiration. Thank you for giving us this opportunity.

"The classes were both blown away by Terry, his assembly and stunts, as were the adults involved! I still haven't quite got over the backflip myself!

All of the children had a superb time, Terry was able to break down each stunt/trick clearly, building towards more challenging stunts. He ensured safety was the ultimate priority and the progress made by all children in the sessions was phenomenal. I honestly saw children light up, one even shared that it was the best day of their life, I did share that with Terry at the time too.

The session was honestly brilliant. There were several children who were prepared not to engage through sheer anxiety and the fact it was something different, out of their comfort zone, and they smashed it, challenging themselves to travel over the ramp when they were scared stiff. They were buzzing from it, so thank you Terry!

I wouldn't hesitate to invite him back for a session next year. He was incredibly friendly, interacted positively with all the children and was professional too."

Claire Arnold - Home Farm Primary, Essex

“On Tuesday 1st November Lime and Cherry class had a fantastic opportunity to experience a stunt scooter workshop. During this workshop, we learnt how to do a ‘bunny hop’ which is where you jump in the air and the scooter comes with you.

We learnt that lots of the tricks require good balance skills such as the no-footer and the no-hands stunt. We also got the chance to scoot over the ramp. Just before you go your stomach starts churning but as you get closer you realise you have to speed up so you don’t get stuck at the top.

Terry taught us that we need to persevere and work hard at school in order to achieve our goals in life. Perseverance is also one of our core values. We had a brilliant time and thank you Terry for sharing your skills and knowledge with us”

Cherry Class - Girton Glebe Primary

"On Tuesday 7th March we had Terry Price from BMX Academy, visit the school to run scooter workshops for our key stage 2 children and two assemblies for the whole school.

The experience was amazing, fun and full of laughter. Terry was engaging with all the children and taught them in accordance with their needs ensuring that the activities were inclusive for all children. He was the children's biggest cheer leader whilst keeping them safe.

The children loved wearing all the gear as it made them feel and look very professional.

Quote from Oscar - "I was brave and joined in, I did most of the tricks and kept trying.  I was proud of myself for keeping trying and at the end I had a smile on my face and Terry gave me a medal'.

"The children had a wonderful time on Friday and Terry was excellent with them. He was very organised and set up on the playground ready for the assembly.

His assembly was fun and engaging, it also held many positive messages that align to our school values. The structure and timings were well balanced, action, music and talk. The children did not take their eyes off him.

The group sessions were well structured too and the children all came back raving about their experience. I have taken lots of photos and videos. I will send some over.

I thanked Terry at the end of the day and let him know how well it had been received. He is a very humble and nice guy indeed while still being very professional. I would certainly welcome him back and would highly recommend the workshop to others.

I just wanted to email you to say what an amazing scootering workshop we had with Terry today. The assembly was inspirational and really did build on our growth mind set work, our school vision and values.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the workshops which were very well organised. During the workshops, the children were encouraged to go out of their comfort zone and persevere. Terry was excellent at building the children’s confidence and all children achieved success. What a brilliant day!

"What a brilliant day had by all who took part - thank you Terry!' We couldn't recommend the Scooter Workshops highly enough - they had the children hooked from start to finish, as did the trick assembly too.
Terry's approach to teaching and learning is wonderful, showing patience and positivity, calmness and kindness.
We look forward to working with you again and would like to book 3 more days in Sept"

James Dew, Birchwood Grove Primary School, West Sussex

"Terry was fantastic. Interacted well with the children and quickly picked up their names, which they appreciated!

I mentioned about differing needs within the class - visually impaired and autism and he was great with those children.

He talked a lot about keep practising in order to get better and that it was okay to fail to begin with. He adapted well to the weather situation as well which was a plus!!"

Phil Baldwin - Orchard Fields Primary Bicester

 "Wow, what a fantastic day!

Terry gave an incredible assembly and the scooter workshops were pitched perfectly.

Thank you so much for organising everything for our scooter experience. What an asset Terry is to your team, I couldn't have asked for a better day.

See you again next year!"

Sally Morrell - Burnham Market Primary

"It was brilliant! Loved the organisation and flexibility to run the assembly indoors. The 'stories' from his life were inspiring for the children. Learning how he overcome so many mental barriers.

Really good to see him focus on progress and improvement in the workshops rather than perfection. But he also praised those who were skillful.

Terry was brilliant! Thank you!"

Sarah Smith Y6 - St Paul’s C of E Primary, Chipperfield

“Thank you very much for the fantastic assembly and workshops today.

Every child I talked to was very impressed. The teachers were also awed by it  and the Growth Mindset talk that Terry gave was just the thing we are always talking about.

We will now be able to refer to Terry's story when we talk about resilience.”

Mrs Jiwa - Newton Farm Primary

“Can I just say that the scooter sessions that Terry delivered were absolutely fantastic!

He was brilliant with the students, very accommodating and approachable and really added to the event.

I will certainly be looking to bring him back here next year!”

Mr Laurence Weir - Hatch End, Harrow

“The week has been amazing!! The children and staff loved it.

Terry was so good with all our children, in particular our SEN children who he was able to engage and communicate with on exactly the right level.

There was such a buzz around school for the three days he was with us.”

Angela Hillier - Teacher & PE coordinator - Christ Church Primary, Cheltenham
